Welcome
Station License Agreement
You only do this once. Sign it now and every time you sign in after this takes you straight to the booking calendar. The only thing that brings this page back is if we change the terms — and then you would be signing the new version, not this one again.
Why there is a contract at all
This is the one agreement we need from you, and it exists to protect both of us. You are your own boss here — responsible for your own payments, your own behaviour, your own clients, your own licence, your own insurance and your own taxes. We provide the environment. This document puts that in writing.
It is not here to tie you to us. Nothing in it makes you owe us time, exclusivity, notice, or a share of anything you earn. There is no minimum and no term. It sets out who is responsible for what, and then it gets out of your way.
This Agreement must be executed before any Station may be booked. Read it in full, provide your details, and sign below. A copy is available on request at any time.
FAQs
Am I working for you?
No. You are an independent artist renting space, and the Agreement says so in several places on purpose. You choose your own hours, your own prices, your own designs, which clients you take and which you turn down. Nobody here assigns you work, sets your rates, or tells you how to tattoo.
The flip side is the honest one: because you are independent, your licence, your insurance, your taxes and your client relationships are yours to run. That is the trade, and most of the contract is simply spelling it out so neither side can drift.
Do you take a cut of what I make?
No. Not a percentage, not a commission, not a minimum. You pay $50 for a slot and everything you earn in it is yours. You set your own prices and keep your own books; we do not audit either.
There is exactly one optional exception and you have to ask for it: if you would rather not set up your own card processing, we can run payments for you. In that case we pass on the processor's fees and the sales tax at cost and add 1% for the work of administering it. We encourage you to run your own instead — it is cheaper for you, and we will help you set it up for free.
Whose clients are they?
Yours. Anyone you tattoo here is your client, before and after. There is no non-compete and no non-solicit, and nothing stopping you taking every one of them with you the day you stop renting.
Deposits and payments go to you directly. We are not holding your money at any point.
Why does the contract say I need insurance?
Because you are not an employee, you carry your own insurance. Rather than build that into a higher chair rental cost, we pass the requirements we have straight on to you and leave the responsibility with you — so you can find and maintain whatever carrier works best for you.
You're your own boss. We just need liability kept off the studio while you rent the space from us. The figures in Exhibit B are the ones we are held to ourselves, passed along unchanged.
Do I have to send you my licence and insurance certificates?
We are not your employer — we facilitate the environment you work in. Your licence and your insurance are yours to obtain and maintain, as the Agreement sets out.
What do I get for the $50?
A full station, ready to work: tattoo bed, artist chair, arm rests, tray, iPad holder, 90+ CRI lighting for true colour, and the stencil printer. Plus the consumables — gloves, ink caps, black ink, shading solution, green soap, razors, sensi wrap, A&D, aftercare wrap, tape, alcohol, stencil paper and ink, barrier film, medicaid wipes, paper towels, rinse cups. Medical waste pickup is handled for you.
You bring your machines, power supply, needles, cartridges and colour ink. The full list is Exhibit A, and there is a copy on the booking page so you never have to guess what to pack.
The supplies are stocked so the chair can stay at $50 rather than the going rate. Use what your session needs — that is what they are there for. Just don't take them home, because that is what would force the price up for everyone.
What if my plans change?
Reschedule rather than cancel. Moving a paid slot to another open date costs nothing as long as the slot you booked is more than five days away. Most changes are just a reschedule, and most people ask about cancelling when what they actually want is to move.
Not sure yet? Put a free 48-hour hold on a date while you confirm with your client. It costs nothing and you can hold two dates at a time.
Swap with another artist. You may trade slots with each other, with notice to us so the calendar stays honest. A trade board is coming to this portal.
Cancelling outright is always allowed, but the $50 is not refunded — the chair was held for you and nobody else could book it.
No-shows carry no penalty. If you don't come in, you don't come in.
What happens if my session runs long?
Book the next slot before you start if you think you might need it — another $50 and the chair is yours. That is the whole answer, and it is worth planning for.
If the next slot is empty, that still is not permission to keep working. If another artist has it, you stop and clean up so they can start on time; their hours are not yours to take. You can ask them, but that is a favour and no is the default answer — nobody has to justify saying it.
If somebody is leaning on you about this, tell Nick or Shakira. We would much rather referee it than have you lose your slot to someone who asked loudly enough.
What is the "Artists we work with" page?
It is a public page on the studio's website listing the artists who genuinely work out of here, so clients can check before they pay anyone a deposit. We built it because people have claimed on TikTok to tattoo at Manhattan Tattoos who have never set foot in the building, and clients have been caught out by it.
It is entirely your choice and it changes nothing about your right to book. Tick the box below and a panel appears on your booking page where you fill in whatever you want clients to see — the name you go by, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, your website, phone, WhatsApp, email. All of it optional; pick one, pick several, pick none.
You control it and you can change it whenever you like. Edit a handle and the page updates. Untick the box and you come off the page straight away, no conversation needed. Send us a photo and it goes up next to your name; don't, and it won't.
What it is not: a claim that we represent you, endorse your work, or have anything to do with the bookings you take. It says you really rent here. That is all it says, and that is the point.
You want my bank details? Can you just charge me whenever?
Only if you choose the optional payment service — if you run your own processing, we never ask for a bank account at all.
If you do use it, we can only debit you for money you actually owe: a client chargeback, or damage that was your fault. And there is a process we bound ourselves to in writing before we may touch it. We tell you first, we show you the backend proof so you can see it is real, and you get at least 24 hours in case your own funds are short — more if you need it. We would rather help you fight a bogus chargeback than take the money from you.
Accidental damage that isn't your fault gets assessed and discussed with you rather than charged straight to your account.
Am I locked into anything?
No. There is no minimum number of slots, no monthly commitment, no notice period and no term. Book a slot when you want one and don't when you don't. Book once and never again if it isn't for you.
Why does the contract sound so formal, then?
Because a vague contract is the one that hurts the person who didn't write it. When terms are loose, the side with more time and money gets to decide later what they meant. Precise terms mean nobody can invent a new rule halfway through — including us. The formality is doing a job, and it is doing it for both sides.
Read the whole thing. Ask about anything in it. If a clause seems wrong, say so before you sign rather than after; we would far rather fix it now.
This section is a plain-English summary written to help you, not a term of the Agreement. Where anything here differs from the Agreement below, the Agreement governs — so read it, and ask us about anything that doesn't match what you expected.
Elections — each optional, and none affects the right to book Stations.

Your holds
A hold is free and reserves the chair — it is not a booking. Pay before the countdown runs out or it releases automatically and anyone can take it.

Notes & requests
Anything the shop needs, anything that's broken, anything you'd change — put it here and it goes straight to Nick's panel. He sees who sent it and when, and it stays on his list until he's dealt with it.
If something is urgent or dangerous — water, electrical, anything that could hurt somebody — call Nick, don't type it here.
Your public listing
You elected to appear on the studio's public artists we work with page. That page exists so clients can tell who really works here — people claim it on TikTok who have never set foot in the building. Whatever you put below is exactly what appears there. Nothing is required, you can change it whenever you like, and switching the listing off removes you from the page straight away.
A photograph is added by the studio — send one to Nick or Shakira and it goes up beside your name.
